What kind of cats are hypoallergenic?

Question by phinetic: What kind of cats are hypoallergenic?
I’ve lived with a cat for 12 years that I was slightly allergic to (could hold and pet it however I then had to wash my hands).

I was wondering that types of cats or kittens I should get that are hypoallergenic, or at least lower in allergies so I don’t have to be afraid to pet it. Also not one of those $ 5000 kittens, cant afford that!

Best answer:

Answer by Ocimom
None – the so called Asher cat that cost $ 10,000 and “claims” to be hypoallergenic is not and its a rip off.

Anyway the lesser shedding breeds you might look into include: Sphynx (hairless), Cornish or Devon Rex, Oriental Shortair, Burmese, Bengal, Ocicat, Russian Blue, and the only long hair is Norwegian Forest Cat.

Keep in mind that if you get a specific breed, kittens will start at $ 600+.

Is there a good substitute for Hills Prescription Diet z/d and y/d for cats?

Question by : Is there a good substitute for Hills Prescription Diet z/d and y/d for cats?
My cat just got put on Prescription Diet for his intestinal issues. He has trouble keeping food down, a very sensitive stomach. I’ve even tried the natural stuff, but it didn’t work. She said he needs to be on a hypoallergenic diet. This stuff has worked great and he hasn’t thrown up, but it’s a little expensive. I was wondering if there are similar brands? Or what is the difference between their Scientific diet and Prescription diet? I’m also looking for treats that he might be able to eat? If there’s nothing similar to it then I will definitely continue to buy it, but I’m just wondering if there are alternatives. Thanks guys!

I have cats with severe allergies and I tried everything and spent a small fortune. Then I found Felidae Grain Free cat food. It is the best thing ever! They have all been completely cured and are like totally different animals – healthy, sleek, shiny-coated, calmer and happier. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Its the elimination of grain products from the formula that does the trick. The use of grains in processed pet foods is as “fillers”, to add bulk to keep the costs low and profits high. But the grains they use are rubbishy by-products like beet pulp that actually cause harm to our pets. If you google “Felidae grain free” you can read all about it.

It takes a few weeks for their bodies to adapt to the diet change, but if you persevere you will be as amazed as I was. I hope, for the sake of your cat’s comfort and well-being, that you might be able to give it a try.

Good luck!

Q&A: Does anyone have a hypoallergenic cat?

Question by helloluv: Does anyone have a hypoallergenic cat?
Does anybody own a hypoallergenic cat, the ones made by the company “Allerca”, also called Lifestyle Pets? Do they really work? Do they cause you any problems with your allergies? I’m interested in getting one, but I’m not sure if they’re worth the cost. If they truly are hypoallergenic, then I would definitely buy one, but I need to know if they really work.

I dont own one of those cats, but i do own a devon rex. They have a different type of fur than an ordinary cat and some people say that they are a good choice for allergy sufferers. They are also extremely loyal and loving cats. I have heard of the hypoallergenic cats, and i believe that they are very expensive

Not completely Hypoallergenic, but i think they have less dander than some cats. So the allergic reaction wouldn’t be as severe.

Bogart, the cat on top of the sofa and Floyd, the dog on the seat of the sofa. Pictured behind them are rescued cat photos. Floyd is a "hypoallergenic" poodle we adopted from the local Las Vegas Animal Foundation (the city pound). He’s WONDERFUL!

A place to get a free or cheap Adult/Retired purebread Siberian Cat?

Question by Caleb B: A place to get a free or cheap Adult/Retired purebread Siberian Cat?
I want a cat but my mom is allergic to them. Siberians being hypoallergenic, she said i can get one if they are cheap. New borns are really expensive. Some sites sell adult/retired cats for $ 250 but then we would have to add shipping costs and that is about $ 300 more. I found some ones in shelters that were $ 30 adoption fees but it was a mixed. Any help?

Best answer:

Answer by amy k
I think you should just keep an eye on the shelters and also call your local vets to see if anyone brings one in sometimes and if they know anyone wanting to get rid of one.
Also, you could keep an eye on craigslist or kijiji.com, and even the classifieds in your local paper. Usually they’re just as expensive, but sometimes you can get lucky.
By the way, I’m pretty sure Bengals are hyperallergenic too.
