Q&A: What types of hypoallergenic dogs are there?

Question by : What types of hypoallergenic dogs are there?
I came to my cousins house to visit one day, and they had this cute brown and white puppy. It was so cute that I was tempted to take it home, but I knew its mother would bite. I decided I would get one from the Human Society near our house. Then I started sneezing. I remembered I was allergic to dogs…

I told my mom about the puppy and about hypoallergenic dogs. My cousin said a poodle is a hypoallergenic dog, but I want to know the other kinds of hypoallergenic dogs, and I want a young puppy too……

COOL CATS – Tigers, Snow Leopards

The Amur or Siberian tiger has no problem living in a very cold part of Russia. Winter months can be a snowy and chilly -10 to -40 degrees Fahrenheit! This agriculture area of Russia is filled with coal, iron ore, limestone, and mineral springs, so we must do our best to not disturb the tigers habitat in mankinds desire for its riches. Recent DNA studies show the extinct Caspian Tiger is pretty much the Siberian tiger of today as only one nucleotide separates them. The beautiful snow leopard also has some harsh climates it calls home. Cold temperatures along with high elevations in countries like Mongolia and Kazakhstan and war torn places like Afghanistan make researching this animal very difficult. Snow Leopards on You Tube: www.youtube.com Other Cool Cats= The Amur Leopard may be down to only 30 or so in the wild. It shares some of its habitat in the Amur region with Tigers. Amur Leopards on You Tube: www.youtube.com Pallas Cats inhabit the Asian steppes (-40 degrees at worse!) living up to heights of 13000 feet (4000m). It is a smaller cat and even though it is now protected in China its numbers are falling due to health issues. The housecat sized endangered Andean Mountain Cat has to deal with freezing nights in winter on its South American mountain homes in areas like Peru, Chile, and Bolivia. Like most lesser cats it is nocturnal and not much is known about its true population numbers. Please visit these informative sites for more info and easy ways to help- 21st

Color has nothing to do w/DANDER!
There’s no “hypoallergenic” anything……all animals have skin!

Q&A: Does anyone know a good site to adopt a bichon frise dog?

Question by lincypanickerqt: Does anyone know a good site to adopt a bichon frise dog?
I really want a dog and I looked up all the breeds there are. The one that I liked the most was the bichon frise. The puppy is hypoallergenic and it is well-suited for apartments like mine. I have two sisters but they are never ever home so I thought a puppy would be a good idea. The bichon frise I want has to be completely white and a baby/young female. I was wondering if anyone knew a shelter or rescue place where I can adopt a bichon frise. I don’t mind getting one from a store but I would rather get one from a shelter or a rescue. My budget is about $ 500 with shipping and handling. So I was hoping for a one that is
- bichon frise
- fully white
- baby or young
- female
- from a shelter or rescue
- for under $ 500 but I can go up to $ 600 with shipping & handling

PLEASE HELP MEEEEE!!!!! I REALLY WANT 1!

Yes, go to Petfinder.com. Alot of the puppies on there are saved from kill shelters and arent really super expensive.

How much do hypoallergenic cats usually cost?

Question by ♥Sandy is Love♥: How much do hypoallergenic cats usually cost?
Me and my mom are allergic to cats, but ever since we had to put my dog down I have wanted another pet. My mom never liked dogs, but the only problem she has had with cats is that she is allergic. So we got that idea and my dad just told me to find out how much hypoallergenic cats cost. So…. how much do they :) thanks for any help!

It’s a common misconception that “hypoallergenic” means non-allergenic, when in fact what it means is “less allergenic.” The truth is that ALL cats produce the Fel d 1 protein that people with cat allergies react to – it is excreted through saliva and the sebaceous glands under the cat’s skin. Breeds that don’t shed much (like the Sphynx or the Cornish Rex) can be better for allergy sufferers because there isn’t saliva-laden fur floating around the house, but they are very expensive ($ 1000+) and they can and will cause allergic reactions if proper precautions aren’t taken.

If I were you, I would stop worrying about finding a “hypoallergenic” breed and instead invest in a HEPA filter, a vacuum and some daily allergy meds (it may take some trial and error to find the right combination), then go to the shelter and pick out a cat your family likes and that your mom can hold without being suffocated. There is a lot of variability between individuals’ Fel d 1 levels, and in any group of cats there will likely be some individuals your mom can tolerate better than others.

Whatever kind of cat you end up purchasing or adopting, your mom will need to get into the habit of washing her hands after handling it, and the cat will also need to be groomed regularly to reduce environmental build-up.

Q&A: Is there a way to make a non-hypoallergenic dog better for allergy sufferers?

Question by Ade A: Is there a way to make a non-hypoallergenic dog better for allergy sufferers?
Our family was about to get a Papillon, which is a dog, for a pet. However, someone in our family has allergies and the Papillon is not hypoallergenic. This means that it is not good for allergy sufferers. Is there a way to make a non-hypoallergenic dog better for allergy sufferers? I heard about a special shampoo just for this problem. Have any of you tried it before and does it work? How well? Please provide the name of the brand that you use. Thank you.

How bad are your allergies? Most people can get used to dog dander after a few weeks, they might just have a cold for a little bit. If your allergies are not that bad, consider getting the kind of dog you want anyways and your immune system will get used to it. My mom is allergic to dogs and cats and we’ve grown up with animals all my life.

Are Pekingese hypoallergenic?

Question by Coolcat115: Are Pekingese hypoallergenic?
I’m interested in adopting a Pekingese puppy. I know that on hypoallergenic dog breed lists Pekingese aren’t on there. But I’ve read that Pekingese are related to Shih Tzu and I know that Shih Tzus are on the hypoallergenic dog breed lists. Does that mean that Pekingese are hypoallergenic as well?

Not even remotely. They are double-coated and high-shedding.
