Q&A: What types of cats are non- shedding and good with dogs?

Question by Lauren: What types of cats are non- shedding and good with dogs?
I have two dogs. A min pin and A Bichon Frise. The bichon frise is very friendly, but the Min Pin can be a little aggressive. Also, my mom is allergic to cats. Are there any breeds of cats that are good with dogs and hypoallergenic? I think Pixie-Bobs are, but I can’t find any for adoption in my area.

There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic cat, even the hairless ones. There’s also no specific breed that’s good with dogs. It depends on personality and quality of introduction process and dogs personality. Just because cat might like dogs is no guarantee your dogs are going to like a cat.

There isn’t much out there…maybe a fish or frog. Or there are things called Micro pigs that only grow to be 30 pounds at biggest. Also I know you said no dogs but there are hypoallergenic dogs. My aunt has a Papipoo (papillon poodle mix) and he is bred to be hypoallergenic and they are very nice and easy to train breeds.

Good luck and hope this helps!!

What are the hypoallergenic dogs?

Question by Lil Chris: What are the hypoallergenic dogs?
I am getting a dog but my mom is allergic to them.

Answer by KoAussie
From Wikipedia:
“A Hypoallergenic dog breed is a dog breed (or crossbreed) that is alleged to be safer for allergic persons than other breeds, although a New York Times article finds that allergists believe that “all the safe-breed theories are just wishful thinking”.[1] Allergists do recognize that at times a particular allergy patient will be able to tolerate a particular dog, but they agree that “the luck of the few with their pets cannot be stretched to fit all allergic people and entire breeds of dogs.”[1]”

Every dog will have dander, which is probably what your son is allergic too.

Question by DR: What types of dogs are hypoallergenic?
I am interested in buying a dog that will not bother my allergies.

Best answer:

Answer by JR
NONE!!!

Yes poodles do shed less hair but everything sheds even you. Its a gimmick but there are other things you can do.

You can use special shmpoos on a dog, take meds. I have had several people adopt that were allergic to short hair dogs and not long haired?? That was confusing but it did start to make sense. The skin is what cause the allergies and with the long hair the dead skin flakes stay under the hair and not come directly to the surface.
